Go Kart Kits – How Not to Get Annoyed While Assembling Your Go Kart

Karting is supposed to be fun! A blast! Liberating!

What’s NOT so much fun (if you’re more of a rider than a hobbyist) is having to shop around for the different components of your go kart!

Sometimes you’ll need to go to one store for the go kart frames, another store for the tires for your go kart, and perhaps a specialty store to purchase some go kart plans. You must be wondering: Is there an easier, quicker way to get everything I need so I can build this thing as soon as possible?

How to choose go kart kits

If you like things to be easy and getting your go kart assembled with the least amount of hassle, then I suggest you purchase a go kart kit, instead of buying each component of your kart separately.

Since go kart kits already come with all the parts you need in order to make a ready-to-ride kart, you can minimize the stress of having to go out and buy each component on its own.

With the exception of the engine and the clutch, go kart kits are pretty complete. What’s more, most come with detailed step-by-step plans. Kits can differ in terms of difficulty of set-up as well: Some might have you starting from scratch (i.e. there is some welding necessary); other kits will come with pre-made components, such as a painted frame, and other jointed elements.

It’s important to choose a kit that you want to work with, one which you know will give you the least amount of stress!

Go kart kits are GREAT because:

  • You save time: No more looking around for every single little component to build a go-kart.
  • You save resources: Go kart kits usually come with everything you need. You’ll just need a few basic tools in order to assemble your kart.
  • You can still customize: While go-kart kits are pre-packaged with everything your need, how you customize your go-kart is still up to you. You can spruce it up with your own decals, your own colors.

How to work with a go kart kit

OK, let’s face it: I know you might want to just stick this piece into that piece and hope to God that your kart gets up and running in an hour. But rushing through a go kart kit can result in shoddy workmanship and a badly constructed kart, so it’s best to take your time and really make your investment in a go kart kit worthwhile.

Aside from being a great convenience, working with go kart kits is a great learning experience for both avid karters and parents who have kids who are karting enthusiasts. If you have someone you can work with on this project, chances are you will both enjoy the work that’s needed to be done.

Listen - when you build a go kart using a kit, you don't even need to be an expert builder. All you need is a focused mind and logic in order to follow the easy-to-assemble instructions that come with kits.

Since kits generally come with all the parts you need (yes, even down to the last nut and bolt), the first thing to do is to organize the parts. It’s wise to lay everything out on the floor of your work area: nuts, screws and bolts; angle iron frame and chassis; seating, and so on.

Once you have everything laid out, place the step-by-step instructions in a visible area, such as a bulletin board, or tape it to a blank wall. Just make sure it’s out of the way of your work area so that it doesn’t risk getting torn or spilled on.

Then, follow the plan stage by stage; don’t rush each step.

In assembling the body of your go kart, first attach the frame together with the seat.  You then need to install the engine, brake, throttle and motor. Since theset kits are customizable, you’ll need to make sure your go kart’s settings and tolerances fit your needs.

Even though you have plans to work with, tweak each feature so that your go kart can handle your stress levels and weight while you’re on the run.

You’ll find that most kits don’t require any welding either, which minimizes your work and also your safety risks. Once you have built your kart, the only upkeep you’ll need is some basic cleaning and engine clean-up.
